Web Class Tips & Techniques

1. One of the unique features of this layout is the use of the tan scalloped Bazzill brand cardstock. This paper can be used as an entire single page background, or more interestingly, it can be cut up and spread out over 2 pages. On the left side, a large portion was used as a title/photo mat/embellishment combo. This creates a very strong focal point on the left side. The scalloped edges were accented with rhinestone brads and flowers. Next time, try using eyelets, doodles, small flowers, buttons, stickers or any small embellishment. Scalloped paper = fun!

2. The colors used are black, tan, and pink. Notice how the background pages are opposite colors, pink on the left, and black on the right. The mat colors are also opposite. The 2 sides are then unified by the use of the tan cardstock, as well as the stickers, rhinestones, ribbon, and silk flowers.

3. Notice that the stickers were all matted on cardstock before they were added to the layout with popdots. Good old fashioned flat stickers might not be as popular as 3-D stickers, but they are easy to use and still look great when used in a sophisticated way.

4. Remember that ribbons love flowers! These flowers were accented with fanciful pink polka dot ribbon petals and stems. The ribbon is easily held in place by the rhinestone centers. The rhinestones were pushed through the flowers, ribbon, and paper background to keep everything very secure.

5. Good adhesive is essential when working with textured cardstock. You may have noticed that regular mounting squares do not hold textured cardstock together very well, and things easily pull apart. Imagine all your beautiful layouts falling apart each time a page is gently turned! While textured cardstock in beautiful, and is really the modern scrapbook standard, you need to consider a different type of adhesive. My personal preference is the Dotto Permanent by Hermafix. The refillable dispenser rolls out very sticky raised dots that are able to reach into the nooks and crannies of the paper and hold much better than the traditional flat mounting square. Other good brands to look out for are the Duck and Mono Tombow. Whatever you use, make sure it is permanent and acid free.
